Earlier today, we covered an article from Rai Sport claiming that Tottenham were one of the clubs taking a look at Maurizio Sarri.
The Italian manager is currently out of a job and looking to get back into the swing of things, and while he turned down Marseille, other clubs are tracking him, including Arsenal.
With both the Gunners and Spurs underperforming by their standards this season, it isn’t surprising to see both Mikel Arteta and José Mourinho come under fire, with potential replacements named.
The news about Arsenal comes from Rai journalist Ciro Venerato, who, relayed by Area Napoli, revealed what he had recently learned.
He said: “I received a phone call from Figline Valdarno (where Sarri lives) from friends of the former Juventus manager, and I discovered interesting things. Maurizio Sarri has not signed with any team. A month ago he said no to Marseille. Arsenal and Tottenham are following him, as well as Roma”.
It’s certainly interesting to read this considering the manager’s history, as he was the man in charge at Chelsea for a season.
While that ended in him parting ways with the Stamford Bridge club, these are clear signs that his work was appreciated in England, with those in charge at Arsenal among those who liked what they saw.
For now, it’s fair to say that Arteta will be given the rest of the campaign to show what he can do, but with a few good managers out there looking for a job, it’s clear the pressure is on and results need to follow, regardless of how patient the Gunners brass claim to be.
It’s also worth pointing out that Venerato also made it clear that Napoli would be Sarri’s absolute favourite choice, but if that never materialised, then other doors will certainly be opened.
