Arsenal are one of the clubs who are ‘thinking’ about Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Ever since he won the World Cup with France in 2018, the centre-back has spent more time away from the pitch due to multiple injuries.

Earlier this month, the Blaugrana confirmed the 26-year-old picked up a knee injury and will undergo a “conservative treatment”.

The Catalan newspaper explains the defender was made aware that the Gunners were ‘thinking about him’, prior to his latest injury setback.

It’s claimed the Frenchman had interest from several clubs, including one from Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal even contacted the La Liga side to register interest in the player’s situation.

Barcelona had then decided not to advance any proposals they received for the defender because the latter had no intention of leaving the Camp Nou.

Despite Umtiti wanting to continue at the club, the report now explains his departure ‘will be inevitable’ this summer.

The Spanish giants are also aware that no clubs will be willing to buy him outright, which is why they are ready to let the former Lyon man go out on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent in 2021.

With Barca wanting to send Umtiti elsewhere in the coming months, it remains to be seen whether or not they will be successful in their efforts.
