Even though most of the rumours around Gelson Martins’ future have gone quiet for a while now, they still pop up here and there.
This Thursday, newspaper O Jogo brings a story about the winger, claiming that Juventus and Arsenal could battle for him this summer.
In Juventus’ case, they are expecting Juan Cuadrado to leave the club in this transfer window, as far as O Jogo are concerned, and would have the 23-year-old as a potential replacement.
And as the Old Lady scouted William Carvalho this season, it’s claimed they ended up being impressed with another Sporting player, which was Gelson.
Arsenal’s interest is a bit more simple. O Jogo believes that the Gunners have no wide players in the squad, and are now wondering about making an offer for the Portuguese international. Unai Emery’s men are said to need players ‘to match their aspirations’.
Sporting’s intention is not to let Gelson go in this transfer window, but as we all know, money talks.
The player is currently protected by a €60m release clause, with his contract with the Lions running until 2022.
