Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all being linked to Sporting’s William Carvalho in Portugal on Tuesday.
As written by A Bola, all these clubs would have to pay the player’s €45m release clause if they want to take him in January. He’s not for sale for less than that.
Carvalho had another clause which meant Sporting would have to pay the player €5m in case they reject an offer of more than €35m, but A Bola claims that it’s not active any longer.
Ok, another story about a Portuguese player and his release clauses, but where did it come from?
A Bola says that it was reported in the English press. Manchester City is the only one assumed by them, as the others came from abroad. But by taking a quick look, it seems that no one reported it.
What we found were a few Italian outlets saying that some website called Sport Witness claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea and United were all keeping an eye on the player.
Well, we never said that. We just covered an article from O Jogo which said that the three clubs had scouted a Sporting game. We mentioned that Chelsea have been linked to the player lately, but that’s basically happened half of the Premier League’s club in the past year.
We don’t know if it’s a mistranslation or just an irresponsible twist. Maybe we should write the article in Portuguese and Italian next time.
