Like international breaks, the Karim Benzema to Arsenal rumours are an unwanted part of football, but they keep coming back.
This time, it’s Diario Gol running it, which means you should probably take it with a large handful of salt, and the bottom line of the story is: Real Madrid want to sell the (former?) France international.
Those responsible for such decisions within the club would do so ‘with their eyes closed’, but a few stumbling blocks stand in their way, mostly his poor performances and his contract, which is set to keep him in the Spain capital until 2021.
But wait, all hope isn’t lost, as Arsenal, who apparently want to ‘give Alexis Sanchez a way out’ of the club, have Benzema as one of their favourites to replace the Chilean forward next summer.
Diario Gol make it clear that, as a Premier League club, the Gunners have the money to satisfy Real Madrid’s demands for the 29-year-old, and such a deal would suit all parties.
Such a move would give Benzema a ‘noble exit’ after eight years at the club, as well as allow him the ‘change of air’ he’s ‘clearly been needing’.
With just two goals and two assists in 13 appearances in all competitions, it’s fair to say the Frenchman isn’t exactly having his best year, and that is why the rumours of an exit have started again.
Benzema to Arsenal is a never ending transfer rumour, but this time it could be the Gunners less keen.
There’ll be plenty more to come, so, buckle yourselves in, as this one is very likely to pop up all throughout January and beyond.
