Arsenal wanted to bolster their attack in the winter market and Dušan Vlahović had long been a transfer target for the Emirates club.
The Gunners were keen on signing the Serbia international and were also ready to meet the demands set by Fiorentina for his transfer.
One of the formulas tried by the north London club was to include Lucas Torreira as part of the deal. The midfielder is owned by Arsenal and is currently on loan with the Serie A side.
Mikel Arteta’s side, however, were unable to convince the striker. He wasn’t interested in Arsenal and after snubbing them, Vlahović joined Juventus towards the end of the last window.
Torreira, meanwhile, has excelled so far at Fiorentina and they are convinced to make his stay permanent. Arsenal, on the other hand, have still not managed to get over their failure of landing Vlahović. This is confirmed by the Uruguayan’s agent, Pablo Bentancur.
“Fiorentina logically want to buy him because he is playing very well. He has returned to having an impressive continuity and dynamism,” Bentancur told Sport890, relayed by Fiorentina.it.
“Now, Arsenal are a bit angry because they wanted Vlahović. Fiorentina wanted to sell him, but the agents said he had to go to Juventus: you always do what the player wants… Lucas is happy in Florence and I think they will take him, to date he is one of the most loved players by the fans.”
