Benfica star Darwin Nuñez is expected to become one of the main targets for the summer transfer window, and it seems the race for his signing has been only growing.
As Italian outlet Calciomercato.it today features a piece on the competition for the 22-year-old, Arsenal show up as one of the clubs who are willing to land him.
It’s claimed that the Gunners are one of those who are ‘very attentive’ to the young striker, who will clearly not be a cheap signing when the summer market comes.
Calciomercato says Benfica are set to demand between €60m and €65m for Nuñez. That price should be enough to exclude some clubs from the competition, especially those from Italy, but not necessarily Arsenal.
According to the story, the race for Nuñez includes the likes of Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Inter Milan and Milan.
So Arsenal must have good arguments to attract the striker, who has 25 goals scored for Benfica this season, showing potential to be one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe come the end of the campaign.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Portuguese media claim that €60m wouldn’t be enough to convince Benfica in the summer, so it could be that Mikel Arteta and co. will have to dig a bit deeper in their pockets if they are to get their man.
