It’s been reported in the British press that Arsenal are in the market for a new director of football.
One of the targets the Gunners have looked at in recent times is Piero Ausilio of Inter Milan.
According to fcInternews.it, the north London club have ‘asked for information’ about the Nerrazzurri sporting director’s future as his contract at the San Siro will expire in 2020.
Unai Emery’s side were all but set to appoint Monchi as their new director of football following his departure from AS Roma, but the Spaniard snubbed the Emirates outfit and returned to Sevilla.
Ausilio is also on the radar of Roma, a potential Monchi successor.
The Giallorossi are interested in Ausilio and have been after him for a month, but his priority is to continue with his current employer.
The report also explains that Ausilio will have a meeting with Inter to extend his contract by a further year, but the possibility of keeping him at the club until 2022 cannot be ruled out.
As of now, Arsenal have just asked for information about Ausilio and with his decision to stay at Inter, the English side will have to look at other targets.
