Following reports from the English media this week claiming that Arsenal are interested in Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, it’s now time for the Portuguese press to confirm the chase.

Some Lisbon outlets had already been covering the stories, but Record now managed to back that up with their own sources.

The newspaper writes that Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Gyokeres ‘more than once’, and his file is ‘gaining space’ within the Gunners’ scouting department.

It’s said the London side already knew him back from his time in the Championship, but only now have they started considering his signing.

The big problem is that Sporting are not considering the idea of losing the centre-forward in the middle of the season, and will only let him go in January in case his €100m release clause is triggered.

That had already been publicly stated by manager Ruben Amorim.

Gyokeres has 15 goals and seven assists in 17 appearances this season so far, and has been proving that the Lions did the right thing when they decided to spend €20m on his signing last summer.

In case Arsenal want him for less than €100m, they better wait until the end of the season and see if the Portuguese club want to negotiate a lower fee.
