One of the many players around the world currently in the final six months of his contract with his club, Jordan Amavi had a few suitors lining up for a potential free transfers.
That’s what certain members of the media said, with Arsenal reportedly among them.
The Gunners recently loaned out Sead Kolasinac to Schalke 04, with Mikel Arteta quite clear the Bosnian didn’t really have a future at the Emirates under him as he leans on Kieran Tierney for that left-back role.
L’Equipe stated back in January that Arsenal were one of a handful of clubs to have taken an interest in Amavi, but the current trend would be for a renewal with Marseille.
That’s according to Le10 Sport this weekend, who explained that while he was being pursued by the likes of the Gunners and Milan, the player and his club ‘could quickly find an agreement to extend the defender’s contract’, with three years allegedly on the table.
Whether this has anything to do with the impending arrival of Jorge Sampaoli remains to be seen, but it appears that Pablo Longoria, recently named president of the club by owner Frank McCourt, isn’t wasting any time in getting things done.
Either way, Arsenal will have to act fast if they want to convince Amavi to snub Marseille.
