When lists of the best managers in football history are compiled, Arrigo Sacchi is more often than not in contention when it comes to the top ten.
The Italian is best known for his time with AC Milan, when he made the Rossoneri the best side in Europe, and developed a style which has influenced coaches to this day.
Sacchi managed to not only win the European Cup with AC Milan in 1989, but he also retained it the following year, an achievement which puts him ahead of many others when it comes to European competition.
Asked by Gazzetta dello Sport to give advice to current AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli, and Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, Sacchi brought Liverpool and Manchester City into the conversation, something which will surely please Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
The Italian newspaper quote the 75-year-old as saying: “They are two good coaches, they must believe even more in what they do and in their own game. More conviction is needed in order to style the team. Look at Liverpool, Manchester City, but also Porto, that is, the teams that are expressing the best football in Europe. In Italy we are often under rhythm, and this is a defect to be erased.”
Sacchi likes the pressing of Liverpool and Manchester City, and feels this is something Italian teams can work on, and also how it all fits together on a team basis, with each player knowing their role.
FC Porto manager Sérgio Conceição will also be pleased to see his side get a mention.
