On June 15th we covered a claim from Argentina that Tottenham had reached an agreement to sign Wilmar Barrios from Boca Juniors.
Mauricio Pochettino was said to have personally asked for the transfer after following the midfielder’s progress closely since he arrived at the Buenos Aires club.
It was explained Boca Juniors had been hoping to increase Barrios’ release clause from €16m to €20m, but the Tottenham interest would obviously come before a new contract and likely see any transfer done at the lower price.
The defensive midfielder has done well at Boca and appearing for Colombia at the World Cup has brought him to a wider audience.
Friday’s edition of El Dia covers claims from elsewhere of a move to Tottenham being on and then adds their own information.
El Dia say ‘the truth is’ that Barrios’ ‘hours are numbered’ at Boca, and ‘in the next few days’ there could be movement on the transfer to Tottenham.
El Dia put the clause at €25m.
