Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a couple of articles stating that Fiorentina would be ready to pay €15m to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal permanently.
The Uruguayan midfielder is currently on loan with the Italian side for the season, and his performances so far had allegedly convinced the Serie A side to fork out the money.
Corriere dello Sport on Friday, however, play that down a bit, explaining that while he certainly has impressed, there are still some questioning whether he is an investment worth making.
There’s no doubt that Torreira wants to stay, but if they decide against signing him, they would then ‘have to understand if it is possible to find someone on the market of the level of the Uruguayan’ available for the pre-agreed €15m price with the Gunners.
A lot could depend on whether or not Fiorentina qualify for a European competition, as they currently sit seventh in Serie A, just six points off a Champions League spot and two off the Europa League.
Either way, it’s made clear that ‘in the meantime, Fiorentina will keep him tight and by the end of the season, perhaps as early as April, they will decide whether to redeem him or not’ from Arsenal.
Now, however, ‘it’s up to him to give everything’ until the ‘decisive’ month of April, where everything could change for him, and the Gunners could make an easy €15m.
