Last summer deadline day, West Ham United allowed Maxwel Cornet to join Southampton on a season-long loan deal.

Julen Lopetegui, who was shown the exit door at West Ham earlier this month, left the winger out of his plans. This convinced him to join Southampton on a loan deal, but the move hasn’t worked out at all for him.

Cornet clocked in 71 minutes from two Premier League games for the Saints this season and both appearances came in September.

Southampton appointed Ivan Jurić as Russell Martin’s successor last month and his arrival didn’t improve the West Ham man’s situation.

RC Lens are considering bringing the former Lyon and Metz man back to Ligue 1 in the winter market. That’s according to L’Equipe, who explain the French club have contacted to find out the conditions for a possible move.

The report states the details haven’t been released, meaning Southampton and West Ham’s stance need to be clarified. The Ivory Coast international has to leave St Mary’s in January to enjoy regular game time and Lens could open their door for him.

Lens need West Ham’s approval, first to cut short the loan deal with Southampton, and then to sign Cornet on another loan deal in this window.
