Unbelievable, but true.
That’s how Tuttosport start their story about Cristian Stellini, the man who has rejected €1m from Chelsea, to instead take a job at a third division club.
The newspaper reports that Antonio Conte, who previously had Stellini on his staff at Juventus, personally invited the former player to join his team at the Premier League champions.
Chelsea would have offered the coach a three-year contract of €300k per season, which with bonuses, could reach a total amount of €1m.
But Stellini, who has just taken charge of Serie C side Alessandria, has chosen a managerial career instead. He has recently signed a two year contract with the club, who failed to achieve promotion to Serie B after losing the playoff final last season.
The 43-year-old did a good job with Girona’s U19 squad last season, and now takes Alessandria as his his first job as an out and out manager.
It’s a brave move to turn down such a good approach from Chelsea, but Stellini certainly sounds like a man who knows what he wants.
