On June 22nd, L’Equipe reported Huddersfield Town were on the verge of signing Steve Mounié from Montpellier.
The price for the big and quick striker was put at around €13m, which would break Montpellier’s transfer record, currently belonging to Olivier Giroud.
Even though there were still loose ends to tie up, and the price hadn’t been completed agreed, L’Equipe expected Mounié to have a Huddersfield medical within days.
Tuesday’s edition of the same French newspaper say Mounié should arrive at Huddersfield in ‘the next few hours’.
‘Les prochaines heures’ may be more a figure of speech rather than literal, although it’d be no surprise if Mounié turned up at Huddersfield today.
The price is still put at ‘around €13m’ by L’Equipe, but it’s likely Montpellier will eventually reveal the exact figure, regardless of whether Huddersfield Town do or not.
Mounié has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and it’s believed in France that English football will suit the 22 year old well.
