Leeds United are set to take on Spanish side Elche in a friendly during the international break as part of their World Cup preparations, with Watford also being eyed up by the Spanish side.
That’s according to Onda Cero, who say Jesse Marsch’s side will play Elche as part of the Festa d’Elx Centenary Fest while Watford could also be approached.
They explain that Elche are looking to ‘take advantage’ of the fact Leeds are set to stay at the Oliva Nova Golf complex by inviting them to play in their tournament at the Martinez Valero stadium.
They want to celebrate the Festa d’Elx ‘in style’, with this set to be the 61st edition.
The meeting with Leeds has already been arranged, with the fixture scheduled for early December once Pablo Machin’s side return from their preparation camp later this month.
Leeds are training at the same golf course as the Spanish side, albeit a week later, and the whole deal has seemingly been arranged courtesy of Victor Orta’s relationship with them.
He worked at Elche alongside several of Leeds’ current staff and so it seems that has been used to arrange this friendly, which will be announced next Tuesday.
The Whites aren’t the only English side being eyed up as Watford are another potential candidate for a friendly during the break.
They are set to be in the same area during the tournament in Qatar, looking to maintain fitness ahead of the Championship’s return.
