Sunderland are yet to appoint a new manager, more than a week after parting ways with Tony Mowbray.
Stade de Reims manager Will Still and Kim Hellberg have been in contention for the vacant job at the Stadium of Light. On Wednesday, the Swedish coach confirmed he had held talks with Sunderland.
The Championship side have suffered a blow as Fotbollskanalen state Hellberg has made a decision on his future. The 35-year-old has been without a club since leaving IFK Värnamo at the end of the Swedish season last month.
The report adds the two parties are in ‘complete agreement’, and Helleberg is expected to bring assistant coach David Selini to the new club.
With regards to Sunderland, Fotbollskanalen state Hellberg had ‘long been involved’ with a potential move to the English club, before they ‘ended up with a different name’. It’s not made clear if this was the reason why the Swede decided to agree a deal with Hammarby.
For the last two seasons, Hellberg was in charge at IFK Värnamo and will now continue his coaching career in Sweden. The report adds Hammarby’s plan is to present him as their new manager later today.
