Anfield would ‘blow up’ if Liverpool were to sack Jurgen Klopp amid their current poor start to the season.
That’s according to German journalist Marcel Reif, who believes it will be Klopp who decides on any potential departure from Merseyside.
Liverpool sit tenth in the Premier League with just two wins from their first eight games this season and already 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Defeat to the Gunners at the Emirates on Sunday has only added to the misery currently enveloping Anfield, with Liverpool outrun and outfought for much of that game and perhaps fortunate the scoreline wasn’t more worse for them.
Their poor start has naturally led to questions being asked about Klopp, who suffered similar dips in form during his seventh years at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.
He was eventually sacked by both the German clubs, but Reif believes there would be chaos if that were to happen at Liverpool.
“I still believe in what Liverpool have in them, but it has to come slowly,” he told BILD.
“Some of the top performers seem tired, perhaps also due to Klopp’s demanding manner. There is still time to reach fourth place.
“If they sacked him, Anfield would blow up! You can’t do that.
“He is old and smart enough. If he feels that what he demands and how he demands it from the team can no longer be done at Liverpool, then he will say himself: ‘Enough is enough’.”
