On May 6th, we relayed news from Colombia that Everton are in the ‘bidding’ for Real Madrid’s James Rodríguez.

It was also explained the Toffees will face a tough battle from Atlético Madrid as they are also keen to sign the 28-year-old.

Gol Caracol journalist Javier Hernández Bonnet told Blu Radio the attacking midfielder is edging closer towards joining Diego Simeone’s side.

“If Real want to recover some money, they have to close a transfer. If this is not done from now to December, James can leave as a free agent,” Bonnet said.

“Real Madrid must make way for James and the same sources that told us when he was going to Bayern Munich, told us that the operation with Atlético is 80 percent done.”

Bonnet’s comments have been relayed in today’s edition of AS and they also mention the Merseyside club.

It’s claimed Everton have been one of the suitors for the Colombia international.

Carlo Ancelotti ‘seeks to catapult’ his side up the table and the former Chelsea manager views the South American’s signing as ‘key’ to doing it.

Unfortunately for the Premier League side, Los Rojiblancos have taken a lead to sign him.

AS states Simeone’s insistent interest in the player has been key in improving Atlético’s chances of signing the South American.
