Carlo Ancelotti ‘wants to break the curse’ for Real Madrid against Manchester City and has even changed team hotels in an effort to do so.
That’s according to La Razon, who cover the ‘curious reason’ why Real Madrid changed hotels before facing Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final this evening.
They explain that Ancelotti has determined that Real Madrid need every piece of luck they can get for tonight’s clash following the 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu last week.
Thus, he decided to request a change of hotel for the visit to Manchester, looking to break the curse that has seen them lose on both of their last two visits to the Etihad.
This was done for nothing more than ‘pure superstition’, with journalist Edu Aguirre explaining all.
“I’m going to tell you why Ancelotti has already taken the first step to win the game against Manchester City,” he said.
“This is the hotel where the team will stay when they arrive in Manchester. Ancelotti is superstitious. In the last two seasons, Real Madrid came here and lost.
“Two defeats, while they slept in a different hotel than this on., Ancelotti has now changed hotels because he wants to break the curse.”
The decision may sound strange, but PSG may have already set a precedent this week, staying in the same hotel as they did the last time they beat Barcelona and securing a similar result.
Whether the change facilitates a boost for Real Madrid remains to be seen in what is undoubtedly the tie of the round against Manchester City.
