Before Paul Pogba moved to Manchester United for a world record transfer fee, he was repeatedly linked to a number of top European clubs.
Along with Manchester United, one of the clubs most linked down the years is Real Madrid. The Frenchman was believed to be on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time, but nothing materialised in the end.
Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has been speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, and was asked if he ever considered signing Pogba at Real Madrid during his time there.
The Bayern Munich boss insisted Manchester United’s Pogba is a ‘great player’, but wasn’t what he needed at the time.
He said: “No! Pogba is a great player but I wasn’t looking for a player of his profile.”
Asked if he’d have liked to sign Pogba at Bayern Munich this summer, Ancelotti replied: “No, impossible. We have a very good midfield with Xabi Alonso, Arturo Vidal, and Joshua Kimmich can also play there.
“We also have Thiago Alcantara and Renato Sanches, who is very young, and has enormous potential.”
Manchester United are very happy to have secured Pogba over the summer, and despite a quiet start, there’s plenty of time for the Frenchman to impose his game, with help from Jose Mourinho.
