Everton need a centre-back, we all know that.
It’s a very poorly kept secret, and the Toffees have been linked with enough names over the past few months to remind everyone of the hole Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands have to fill this summer.
However, considering the track record of the Dutch director of football, we weren’t expecting the latest name to pop up as fervently as it has: Thiago Silva.
With it now known the Brazilian will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, some members of the French media have wasted no time to send him elsewhere, including Everton.
In fact, Le10 Sport say Ancelotti has taken the first step to try and convince Silva to try his hand at English football, wanting to reunite with a player he worked with during his spell with the Ligue 1 champions.
The French website go as far as saying the Italian manager has spoken to the 35-year-old on the phone to ‘express his desire to work with him again’ with the possibility ‘of offering him a two-year deal’, which is what the veteran wants.
But, because life just isn’t simple, Ancelotti will also have to overcome the competition starting to form around the defender, as Le10 state clubs such as Milan, Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona are all circling.
Down the player’s end, it’s stated Silva is open to working with the former manager again.
It does make sense, but whether he’s the right option going forward, only time will tell.
