Carlo Ancelotti’s move from Everton to Real Madrid ‘can be made official’ today, and the Spanish club plan to announce the appointment in the next few hours.
That’s according to Cadena Ser, who provide details via journalist Antón Meana on what has gone on behind the scenes.
He explains that after the board, headed by Florentino Pérez, ruled out the options of Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte, talks with the Everton boss ‘intensified’.
The coach’s entourage played a big part in then convincing him to switch, describing the offer to return to Madrid as a ‘train he can’t let pass’ or ‘an option he can’t refuse’.
According to Meana, Ancelotti took the call to return ‘with joy’ and immediately afterwards told Everton he wanted to leave.
They’ve started the search for a replacement already, and ‘everything sped up in the last 48 hours’, with negotiations now at an advanced stage and ‘close to a successful conclusion.’
Indeed it seems Madrid are so confident that they plan to announce the deal in the coming hours, although there is still no mention of compensation or a deal in place with Everton to let Ancelotti go.
At this point, though, it seems almost certain, and the Italian coach will be returning to the Bernabeu for a second spell sooner rather than later.
