As things stand, there is a feeling of hope from the Italian papers that a deal between AS Roma and Everton can be struck for the transfer of Bernard.

The two national papers mention the story, with Gazzetta dello Sport kicking things off by explaining Tiago Pinto, the new general director in Rome, made ‘new contacts’ with the Toffees on Wednesday for the swap deal involving the Brazilian and Robin Olsen.

What was said in that meeting isn’t revealed, but Corriere dello Sport have a bit more information on the matter.

It’s explained Roma ‘have offered an exchange with Olsen’ for Bernard, with the Serie A club valuing their goalkeeper at around €6.5m, using that to lower the price of the Everton player, who is said to cost between €10-13m.

The forward has ‘already communicated his willingness to lower his wages to €2.5m/year for the agreement to be of at least three years’, while Carlo Ancelotti has given his ‘blessing’ for the operation to go forward.

The alternative is Stephan El Shaarawy, but Shanghai’s desire of €2m up front for a five month loan isn’t exactly that much cheaper in the grand scheme of things.

There’s wind in the Bernard sails at the moment, and with Paulo Fonseca ‘ready to welcome him with open arms’, that feeling of hope is very much there.
