Carlo Ancelotti has always seemed quite a warm character. Although he tries not to wear his heart on his sleeve too much, the Italian comes across as a genuinely nice guy.
That’s been the impression of him left at clubs including Real Madrid and Chelsea, with Ancelotti being a much liked manager for players, and also the wider staff of a football club.
Being ushered toward the exit door by Bayern Munich, Gotze said before Euro 2016 that he was going to stay at the club. The German media thought this was part of a game with Bayern, but the Bundesliga champions soon made it clear publicly that a move would be best for Gotze, if he wanted to play a big part for a club.
Asked by German newspaper Bild about Gotze, Ancelotti said: “I had a private conversation with him. I explained my position, he explained to me his position. He knows the opinion of the FC Bayern.”
Ouch. There doesn’t appear to be any pushing of a ‘fresh start’ idea from Bayern, and the opinion on Gotze appears to be coming from the top of the club. Maybe there’s more to the story and once Gotze leaves things will start to become clearer.
Over the weekend Bild reported that Gotze’s father has held two meetings with Tottenham. If the claims are true then it’s a good opportunity for Gotze, but he’d still have to fight for his place at Spurs.
