Tuesday was not a great day for those Everton fans who had been fully sold on the Carlo Ancelotti era with the Toffees.
Despite it repeatedly seeming that the Italian was with the Merseyside club for the long term, with the aim of pushing Everton towards being a Champions League club and fighting for trophies, Ancelotti seemingly jumped ship the minute Florentino Perez picked up the phone.
The Spanish media have been reporting there was a clause in the manager’s contract which allowed him to basically walk out on the Premier League club should Madrid come calling.
Reaction in the Spanish media has been very positive so far, with Ancelotti’s best times with Los Blancos getting plenty of coverage.
Spanish newspaper AS have mocked up Carlo Ancelotti as Gandalf, because obviously.
🧙♂️”It was returned to me to finish the task”
🗣 “At the dawn of the storm, I return to you”https://t.co/rld0vCt8VD— Sport Witness (@Sport_Witness) June 2, 2021
AS, a Spanish newspaper, even mocked him up as Gandalf, with the insinuation he’s returned to guide Madrid through a coming storm.
El Chiringuito, who are obsessive about all things Real Madrid, have today pictured Ancelotti being driven into the club’s training centre, clearly thrilled that he’s managed to arrive from Everton so quickly.
