Aston Villa goalkeeper Dibu Martínez is one of the best three goalkeepers in world football and will continue to be so for the next four to five years.
That’s according to Argentine icon Sergio Goycochea, who believe that Aston Villa have one of the best in the world at their disposal.
Martínez is currently enjoying arguably the high point of his career, as he shines for Aston Villa in the Premier League and Argentina on the international stage.
He moved to Villa Park after a frustrating eight-year spell with Arsenal which he spent largely out on loan before a brief chance at the end of the 19/20 season thanks to an injury to Bernd Leno.
That earned him the move to Aston Villa that summer and he hasn’t looked back since, shining for them and establishing himself as number one for his country.
He’s now won the Copa America in 2021, the World Cup in 2022 as well as being named The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper and taking the Yashin Trophy this year. He is undoubtedly among the best in the world, and Goycochea doesn’t believe that will change anytime soon.
“He is in the best league in the world, he practically plays a semi-final every weekend because he always has five in front of him, six or seven national team players,” he said.
“He is having a good performance and his team’s position in the table is heroic. If you analyse his level and the level at which he continues to maintain himself in the national team and, obviously, his personality, which has also brought him here and magnifies his figure.
“For me, yes, he is the best. Saying it can be very subjective because we are Argentines, but there is no doubt that he is among the three best in the world.
“For me, not only do we have a goalkeeper with a great present, but we can still project into the future despite his 31 years. 2030 is far away, but without any type of problem for 2026.
“I think that due to experience, personality and the talent he has, we will have the position to not cause problems for the next four or five years at least.”
