Real Betis are increasingly open to a loan deal for William Carvalho as Norwich City look to secure his signature.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say getting rid of the Portuguese midfielder’s wages would help the Spanish side considerably.
Carvalho has long been linked with a move away from Betis but has never seen that happen, with a long list of suitors never really stepping up their interest.
There has been little interest this summer, but reports in England have now claimed Norwich are keen on a move and working to make that happen before deadline day.
Those reports did not mention whether it would be a permanent move or a loan deal for the Canaries, but Estadio offer a hint today.
They explain that Betis chief Antonio Cordón has several things pending on his to-do list before the end of the transfer window, but the situation at the club is that a sale is needed before there can be more incomings.
Carvalho’s fee has already ‘scared off’ interest from elsewhere because Betis have always made it clear they want to recover the €16m they paid for him.
That stance has now changed, though, and they know it is ‘practically impossible’ for them to get that fee back in reality. They will, however, stick to that point in any negotiations.
Whether Norwich are willing to invest such a sum isn’t mentioned, but according to ED, a loan is ‘increasingly likely’ instead.
If Betis could secure such a deal with an option or, even better, an obligation to buy at the end of it and get rid of Carvalho’s €2.5m a year wages, it would be ideal for them. It’s now up to Norwich to offer it.
