Everton were one of the clubs ‘interested’ in signing Seko Fofana during the last window, according to L’Equipe.
After the end of last season, the 25-year-old decided to end his time at Udinese and look for a new club outside Italy.
It’s claimed the Toffees, along with Atalanta, Lazio, Hertha Berlin and Rennes were the suitors for the midfielder.
The Ivory Coast international snubbed interest from the Merseyside club and other sides in order to join RC Lens, who were promoted to Ligue 1 this season.
Fofana ‘agreed to join’ Lens over other suitors after being ‘won over by the promise of being at the heart of the project’. He made this decision just days after visiting the French club’s training facilities on August 4th.
Amid other clubs circling around the African midfielder, Lens president Joseph Oughourlian made the effort to meet Fofana’s salary demands and then submitted an offer.
The player had also made his desire to join Lens public and his transfer was completed on August 18th.
Fofana became Lens’ club-record signing and L’Equipe states he must now ‘embody the project’ at the club.
Should he manage that then another move from Everton could be on the cards.
