Over the past couple of months, the future of Adrien Rabiot has been a constant stream of news in the French media.

Contracted to Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the season, there was hope within the Ligue 1 champions’ ranks a contract renewal could be negotiated amid interest from Barcelona, Tottenham or Manchester City, but that appears to have completely collapsed this past week.

On Sunday evening, an article was published on RMC Sport’s website claiming that Rabiot had let the French club know he wasn’t interested in discussing a new deal, and that he would be leaving at the end of the current campaign on a free.

There was also a belief at Paris Saint-Germian Rabiot had ‘already agreed terms with another side’, but that wasn’t confirmed.

About a week or so ago, Paris United stated that Spurs, as well as Manchester City, had been in talks with the player and his entourage ‘for weeks’, as the player’s mother (and agent) was letting her son know he should wait until the club’s Champions League future was clearer before making his mind up.

Having beaten Liverpool last week, all seemed to be pointing in the direction of a renewal, but RMC Sport’s claims mean there’s a good chance Mauricio Pochettino and co. make their move once the January transfer window opens.

The big question now will be whether or not Paris Saint-Germain, knowing they have a player who doesn’t really want to be there anymore, get rid during the transfer window, or are happy to keep him as a backup for the remainder of the campaign.

If Tottenham really want him, they’ll have to pay some money up front, but with just six months or so left on his deal by then, he won’t cost all that much.

We say €20m max, and that’s being very generous.
