The Thomas Lemar story is back.

L’Equipe have decided to relaunch transfer rumours around the AS Monaco player, just in time for the January window warm-up, and this time it’s not just Arsenal and Liverpool.

The French newspaper explain that when big English clubs want a player, it often stirs the interest of other Premier League sides, and that’s the case with Chelsea and an ‘ambush’.

Antonio Conte’s side are said to have already made some kind of contact, although L’Equipe don’t say who that was with, and it’s stated Chelsea are ‘thinking more and more’ about getting involved in the race.

Given L’Equipe reckon repeat offers of €90m and €100m are being formulated by the other Premier League clubs, that gives an idea of what Lemar would cost Chelsea.

Struggling to show he’s a €100m player with Monaco this season, as the club go through a much more difficult campaign, Lemar is said to be receptive to the idea of a January move.

It just doesn’t feel like a Chelsea style transfer, especially in January, and especially at the price being suggested.
