A move to Newcastle United would meet Philippe Coutinho’s ‘expectations’ this summer, should it be on offer.
That’s as far as Mundo Deportivo are concerned, explaining that the Magpies can satisfy the Brazilian on more than one front should they wish.
Earlier today, we covered a report from Spain that stated Newcastle had made their first move for Coutinho, looking to take advantage of Aston Villa’s dithering over a permanent deal.
They have the opportunity to turn Coutinho’s loan deal into a permanent one for €40m but are unsure whether to do so, having already paid for the loan and given the wages involved.
Newcastle are aware of that and are more than happy to match the fee and Coutinho’s current wages at the Nou Camp to get their man.
It was also stated that Coutinho had changed his mind on the club after being approached by Newcastle in January, and Mundo back that up.
They cover the reports from England and say the Magpies are ‘on the lookout’ for a deal should Aston Villa not make their move.
They are not considered a viable option by Coutinho because of the ‘very ambitious’ plans they’ve put forward and their desire to be ‘among the greats’ in the Premier League.
That meets Coutinho’s expectations in a sporting sense, but they can also do so on an economic level, which tallies with the earlier reports they’d be happy to match his current wage packet.
Where the Brazilian ends up remains to be seen but what is ‘almost certain’ is that he will not be returning to the Nou Camp.
