Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has been hailed by international teammate Axel Witsel, who says he is even better than Marouane Fellaini, when it comes to being on the ball.
Onana joined Everton in a €35m deal from Lille in the summer and has been a big hit ever since, with a series of impressive performances in Frank Lampard’s midfield.
It has earned him a call up to Belgium’s squad for this international break, with the midfielder playing 75 minutes in the 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands last night.
He was widely praised for his performance in the game, with many predicting the Everton man will be a part of the squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
That remains to be seen and, in the meantime, he’ll have to continue impressing for Everton, something that seems likely if he can build on his early season form.
Blues fans have already compared the midfielder to former Goodison Park star Marouane Fellaini, who established himself as a firm fan favourite during a five-year spell between 2008 and 2013.
International teammate Witsel, though, believes the Everton man has more about his game than the man he is being compared to.
“It went well with him,” DH Net report him saying.
“Amadou is strong, generous and a good listener. He makes good runs defensively and he infiltrates well.
“He is a player who will be useful. An air of Fellaini? Yes, but Amadou is better on the ball than Marouane.”
