Liverpool signed Arthur on a loan deal from Juventus on the summer deadline day. Prior to taking the ex-Barcelona man, the Reds tried signing a few other midfielders, including Denis Zakaria and Konrad Laimer.
At the start of this month, the RB Leipzig player admitted the Merseyside club made a late effort for his services.
Bayern Munich showed keen interest in the Austria international throughout the last window, but their Bundesliga counterparts were not interested in a deal.
Laimer injured his left ligament in Leipzig’s 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund earlier this month and is set to miss the rest of this calendar year. He appeared as a guest on Servus TV’s program, Sport & Talk.
Bild have relayed his quotes and they add the option to join Liverpool next summer, when his contract at Leipzig expires, ‘could definitely become an issue again’. This possibility arose after he expressed his admiration for the Merseyside club.
“I’m generally a football fan. I generally like watching the Premier League. I’ve always been a Liverpool fan,” Laimer said.
After Leipzig rejected Bayern’s approach, the player was quizzed whether he thinks a club like the German champions will return for him again in the future.
“Surely there are such thoughts. I don’t think a club like that comes knocking every summer, it’s one of the best in the world,” he explained.
“I’m a here and now focused. If you worry too much, you lose sight of the most important thing – and that is playing football and getting better.
“I’ve been at Leipzig for five years and I feel good. Now it will be a year longer and then we will see what happens.”
Meanwhile, Krone in Austria have also relayed Laimer quotes, in which he insisted things need to fit for him to join a new club.
“When you’re associated with clubs like this [Liverpool and Bayern], there’s a certain pride. But I’m more the guy who talks to people and needs a feeling that everything fits together,” he stressed.
