Alvaro Garcia: Middlesbrough keen for January
Middlesbrough have been repeatedly linked with players in Spain since Aitor Karanka took over at the club, and to be fair to the Spanish media, it hasn’t been without basis. The latest footballer in question is Alvaro Garcia, and a claim started on Spanish radio that Middlesbrough are ready to put €6m on the table to sign the Cadiz player in January.
There have been suggestions that there are multiple reports in Spain claiming this, so it’s worth pointing out that every claim we’ve seen relates back to Canal Sur Radio journalist Javier Lacave.
Garcia moved from Granada to Cadiz in the simmer, after an initial loan, and his club don’t sound too keen on selling the 24 year old. The regional media outlet of Ideal have done some digging, and Cadiz have denied having any contact from Middlesbrough about a potential transfer.
Cadiz’s sporting director Juan Carlos Cordero is quoted as saying on Monday “Cadiz CF has not had any contact with Middlesbrough for Alvaro Garcia. We are not a selling club.”
The problem for Cadiz is that Garcia’s release clause is €6m, so if Middlesbrough pay that then it’s a deal, as long as the player agrees.
We thought it would be interesting to see what Cadiz fans are saying about the potential Middlesbrough transfer, and found these comments on Portal Cadista.
‘If they don’t give the 6m, Cadiz should not negotiate anything, because they will spend what they get on smaller players. He has 4 years of contract and in those 4 years Cadiz can climb to first division well. To see if Alvaro is going to prefer to play in that team that he knows nothing about, that is if they put him to languish on the bench, or in the Santander League with the Cadiz. Come on, I would not have doubts. This player here is God!!’
‘Pure smoke friends… It’s very clear this is nothing more than a movement of some representative, or that of Alvaro or some other intermediary; That arrives to a journalist in rumour mode. You think a Premier League team is going to pay SIX MILLION Euros for a second division player? Hahaha I leave you with the people that you believe.’
‘Look at the match in Tarragona. This was apparently an easy match and Alvaro wasn’t and isn’t noticeable. I do not say that we lost because of him, but he has a lot of weight in the team.’
Alvaro Garcia plays on the left of midfield, and can also play through the middle or on the right.
