Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a claim from Foot Mercato that Newcastle United were ‘currently in talks’ with Ousmane Dembélé regarding a big contract.
The news came from Foot Mercato, who claimed the France international’s situation was frustrating Barcelona, and with his current deal expiring next summer, his agent was already hard at work trying to find alternatives for his client.
Newly-rich Newcastle are among those, and it’s claimed a €15m/year wage package and €15m signing on fee were discussed, but that could all be void if the Magpies got relegated.
Well, this has been backed up by Goal in Spain, who have ‘been able to confirm’ that Dembélé’s agent is ‘pressing the options’ for his client, and is ‘offering the forward to several European clubs’.
That’s where Newcastle ‘appear’, with whom ‘there have already been some contacts’.
So, in essence, that’s two sources who are now independently claiming that the St James’ Park side are interested in the Barcelona forward, who could end up being their first big marquee signing next summer should they avoid the drop.
After all, every new era needs one, and if you can get him on a free, even better.
