Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that the club are close to finalising a move for Memphis Depay.

The Dutch striker is out of contract at Lyon this summer and is set to leave the French club on a free transfer.

Barcelona have long been linked with a move, and they have been working on getting a deal done, viewing the forward as a cheap reinforcement to bolster their squad.

The move has been more than backed by current boss Koeman, who worked with Depay to great effect during his time in charge of the Netherlands.

The two parties have been edging closer to an agreement for weeks, and Koeman has now revealed Barcelona are close to getting their man.

“Of course, I would be happy with it,” Tubantia report him saying.

“Everybody knows what we have in common, and it would be great if that would happen. But you said it well: it’s almost done.”

While Depay is set to arrive at the Nou Camp, one player who will not be doing so is fellow Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum.

The midfielder’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of this month, at which point he will join Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer.

The move to France was wrapped up earlier this month in a surprise fashion, with many having expected the Dutch midfielder to join Barcelona.

He had been heavily linked to the Catalan giants for the last year, with them trying to get him on the cheap from Liverpool.

They were again interested in January without getting a deal done, and all indications had been that a free transfer would be arranged this summer.

He has instead opted to move to PSG, and Koeman believes the Liverpool man-made that decision amid uncertainty about his own future.

“That is Gini’s right,” he added.

“That he did not choose Barcelona, is partly because I had no clarity. Then he did not have that either. Then days pass, and another club comes cycling in.”
