It doesn’t matter whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wins, draws or loses as Manchester United’s manager, there will always be a rumour somewhere about a manager with a bigger reputation replacing him.
They’re always present, but they become more widespread as soon as points are dropped.
That being said, even with a 3-1 win over West Ham under their belt, there’s still someone somewhere suggesting the club could do with a better manager, like Max Allegri.
The Italian has been out of a job since walking away from Juventus, and while he’s been linked with the likes of Chelsea and United over the years, his schedule remains free for the time being.
However, for Paolo Di Canio, there’s one team who would be great for Allegri, and that’s the one based at Old Trafford.
He told Sky Italia, relayed by FC Inter 1908: “I would see him well at Manchester United. It would be the ideal team. Not because of the characteristics, but because in the squad there are talents and experienced players, and with some additions, they could be the team that Allegri could bring back to be closer to other great clubs.
“We’re talking about City, Liverpool, who are struggling, but they are great clubs. The will from [Manchester United] to return to the top is there, and an intelligent one like Allegri could make it happen.”
At the end of the day, until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sacked, this is all but speculation and opinion, but there are plenty out there who will agree with Di Canio, always believing the Norwegian was never the right man for the job in the first place.
