After months of negotiations, the Todd Boehly-Clearlake led consortium completed the takeover of Chelsea on May 30th.
Two days ago, the west London club’s spokesman confirmed the new owners have held back £100m, to make sure there has been no Financial Fair Play breach.
“It is not unusual in these types of transactions, particularly deals completed in an accelerated time frame, to withhold an amount related to any unforeseen liabilities that may arise from transactions that occurred prior to the sale,” the spokesman told The Times.
Sport state the Blues are ‘cautious’ about FFP regulations, which is why the deal for Sevilla’s Jules Koundé has stopped for now.
That doesn’t mean Chelsea aren’t keen to sign the centre-back, and they continue to be interested in him.
Meanwhile, Estadio Deportivo explain the west London club seem to be the 23-year-old’s destiny. The La Liga side are ready to let him leave and are looking for a €65m fee.
Due to this, the Premier League and UEFA are on alert, while Thomas Tuchel’s side remain cautious about the rules. This shouldn’t have an impact on the English club’s signings but it has delayed their plans to rebuild the squad.
Chelsea still remain keen to sign Koundé, while Julen Lopetegui’s side are open to selling him this summer, after refusing to accept offers for him in the previous two summer windows.
Estadio Deportivo add both the France international and Sevilla are ‘still waiting for Chelsea’ to make an approach for the former Bordeaux man.
Diario de Sevilla explain Chelsea’s talks with Koundé and his agent have been fluid since Sevilla rejected their offer last summer.
His representatives also manage AS Monaco’s Aurélien Tchouaméni, who is now close to sealing a switch to Real Madrid. Due to this operation, the deal to take Koundé to Chelsea has slowed down for the time being.
Diario de Sevilla claim that ‘all eyes are on Chelsea’, but other clubs could come into the picture to sign Koundé if the Blues doesn’t take the necessary steps to secure his services.
