Newcastle United’s expected takeover by the Saudi’s is still not official, but that’s not stopped the Magpies being linked to top quality players and big money signings.

Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho is one of the players believed to be a target for the Tyneside club.

The 27-year-old’s representatives have been trying to find a solution after Bayern Munich confirmed they won’t make his loan deal permanent.

He is currently injured and is unlikely to feature again for the Bundesliga club, claims Sport.

It’s claimed Quique Setién’s side are considering him for their new project next season, but the former Liverpool star would continue there only if he can be an important player.

For now, the South American’s future is in in the air and he won’t ‘close the door’ to leaving Barcelona.

Coutinho’s entourage have received inquires from the Premier League, but it’s yet to be converted into a firm offer.

Chelsea and Tottenham, who were considered as suitors, have cooled their interested in him and the report says ‘all eyes’ are on Newcastle.

Sport states the attacking midfielder doesn’t want to join a ’smaller club’, even if they are ready to pay him high wages.

It’s not clear if Newcastle would fall into this bracket and if they do, then that would rule out their chances of signing Coutinho.
