Sevilla and their fans would undoubtedly love to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, so it may have been expected that English claims the club are in ‘pole position’ to sign the Chilean would be welcomed.
The Seville media could get weeks, and perhaps months, of articles out of the potential deal so it would be understandable if it had all been lapped up. However, that’s not the case for Estadio Deportivo, who are quite perplexed by the whole thing.
Sevilla’s local sport newspaper explains the claims don’t seem watertight because the finances would be out of reach. Even a reduced transfer fee, with Sanchez’s Arsenal contract ending in June 2018, is seen as prohibitive, and the player’s wages simply something which couldn’t be financed.
Estadio Deportivo dismiss the whole thing by saying ‘it does not appear that Sevilla are in a position to enter a bid for Alexis’, never mind be in pole position to complete a transfer in the summer window.
