There’s optimism in Chile.
After a disappointing 0-0 draw to Colombia, it had been quite the opposite. Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez hadn’t travelled to take part in the match, due to a muscle injury, and Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal was injured during the game.
Both players are very important for their national and the idea of facing Uruguay without them wasn’t one which sat well. However, both players are also hugely committed to playing for their country and would likely choose to do so even if an injury issue suggested a rest would be more appropriate.
Sanchez has spoken repeatedly about his will to always play, and not being thrilled when rested by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, and that fighting attitude has caused issues at times.
Not now though, Chilean newspaper La Tercera say Sanchez and Vidal are ‘100% recovered’ and therefore totally fit to take their starting places against Uruguay.
It sounds like something of a medical miracle for them both to be back at 100%, but if true it’s great news for Wenger and Arsenal.
If it’s not true and an injury which hasn’t recovered is made worse… well, there’s going to be quite a bit of irritation.
