Albert Grønbæk spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton.

He struggled during his stint at St Mary’s, with the spell almost ruined by an injury. Grønbæk played only four times in the Premier League and is set to return to his parent club Rennes following Southampton’s relegation.

Despite his struggle in English football, the Dane is on the verge of a promising opportunity.

TipsBladet report Rennes are holding discussions with Genoa, and things looks positive about a move to Serie A for Grønbæk.

The Italian side are looking at an initial loan deal with the option to buy him permanently and the outlet claim that a framework is in place for a deal.

Genoa are expected to have an option to buy for a fee of €10m, with the 24-year-old keen on having another experience at the highest level after facing relegation with Southampton.

Grønbæk is also of interest to two other, as yet unnamed, clubs from the top five European leagues, however, Genoa looks the likeliest destination right now.
