Brian Brobbey is in the process of making himself Ajax’s new star, yet could be leaving the club in a few months.
On Thursday evening he scored a goal against Lille to help Ajax to a 2-1 Europa League victory, despite only being on the pitch for 16 minutes. With just 84 minutes of Eredivisie action so far this season, he’s scored twice and added an assist.
There’s a reasonable chance he’d be getting more minutes had he not decided to leave when his contract expires in the summer. Ajax are keeping the door open for him to stay, but it’s thought the 19-year-old’s agent, a certain Mino Raiola, will be moving him elsewhere.
Marca take a look and rather than link Real Madrid, they mention Manchester United.
It’s stated that as a child Brobbey dreamed of making it at Ajax and then moving to Manchester United.
We’ve had a look in the Dutch media and there’s nothing to back this up, although the Old Trafford club were said to be following the youngster’s progress in 2017.
Ajax are aware the difficult and unlikely task they have of keeping the player, and the preparation for his exit has been on the cards for a while. The great and good of the Dutch club, along with sections of the country’s media, have warned Brobbey that leaving Ajax could be a big mistake, and there’s obviously some anger towards Raiola.
Brobbey is a centre forward and Manchester United seem well-stocked in the young-and-very-talented-attacker department. Even beyond Mason Greenwood, there’s other youngsters coming through.
Still, given Brobbey will be available for free, there’s clearly going to be interest around Europe. Should his Manchester United dream be true, it would be no surprise if Raiola would look for a move elsewhere first, to then build a mega money transfer to England at a later date.
