The last six months have been wonderful for David Neres.
He was only 19 in January when he left São Paulo and was signed by Ajax on a €10m+ deal. And surprisingly, the youngster was able to make a quick impact at the Dutch side with five goals and four assists in 16 appearances..
The winger was brought on after 62 minutes in the Europa League Final, but as Manchester United were already winning 2-0, there wasn’t much he could to stop Jose Mourinho getting his hands on the trophy.
However, he was still very happy with something that night: the way he was treated by Manchester United players.
Neres attended ESPN Brasil’s show Futebol No Mundo on Thursday, and when speaking of the things that impressed him most in Europe, he said the contact he had with Wayne Rooney was one of the best.
“Rooney knew my name! I couldn’t imagine that. At the end of the game, he greeted me and said my name. I couldn’t imagine.
“I was a bit upset because we lost the game. Then he came, greeted me, said my name, I even forgot the defeat. Pogba too, some of of Manchester players.”
Maybe Neres forgot his name was written on the back of his shirt. But let’s not spoil the joy of a happy 20-year-old kid.
