Much has been made in England about Chelsea’s interest in Atlético Madrid’s Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, but the Spanish club aren’t prepared to let him go so easily.
An important part of Diego Simeone’s plans, the Belgian winger is already in talks with the La Liga side about a new contract, one meant to scare off potential suitors.
According to AS in Spain, Atlético want to slap a new improved release clause on the forward (it currently stands at €40m), who only signed for the club in 2015 until 2020, in order to ensure that if he does go, they’ll be well covered.
Furthermore, the player will also be getting an improved wage, and be contracted to the club that little bit longer.
The player himself is very happy in Madrid, where he clearly feels valued, and an agreement between parties will hopefully happen ‘soon’.
Chelsea are apparently well aware of all of this, but that doesn’t mean they’re planning on stopping their pursuit of the 23-year-old.
Their interest, if anything, is helping contract negotiations tick along nicely, especially since AS report the relationship between both clubs has taken a turn for the worse following the Diego Costa debacle over the summer.
