Before Barcelona agreed a deal with Ajax for Frenkie de Jong, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot was one of the priority targets for the La Liga winners for next season.
Over the past few months, we’ve carried multiple reports discussing the Blaugrana’s interest in the Frenchman, who has less than six months left on his contract after rejecting an opportunity to sign an extension.
There’s been a new development in regards to the Spanish champions’ interest in the 23-year-old, according to today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
The PSG contract rebel is managed by his mother Veronique Rabiot, and Ernesto Valverde’s side had a ‘total agreement’ with the agent for the player to make a switch on a free transfer in the summer.
Despite this, Barca are cooling their interest for two reasons and two factors have made them sceptical in landing Rabiot, the first one being the silence of the player due to the personal reasons.
This, coupled with the arrival of De Jong has seen Barcelona ‘diminish the interest’ in Rabiot.
If he wants to change the situation, then the Ligue 1 star needs to recover the Catalan club’s total interest.
This all sounds somewhat harsh on Rabiot, who has lost two close family members in recent weeks.
