The agent of AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas has told the Italian media he has no updates on the player’s contract renewal. The Greek international has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, along with other Premier League sides.
Speaking to TMW, Ioannis Evangelopoulos was asked about the future of Manolas at Roma and also the interest from Chelsea. Evangelopoulos pointed out the defender still has a contract with Roma for another two years, but he wouldn’t get drawn on whether the player would be extending this. The player’s agent confirmed he is happy in Italy, but refused to make any comment on the interest from Chelsea.
“There is a valid contract with Roma until 2019. Kostas wants to do well with the giallorossi jersey. As for the renewal, at the moment I do not know. I can’t answer that question. But I add the boy is happy in Rome,” said Manolas’ agent.
When asked to confirm Chelsea interest,Evangelopoulos said: “I’d rather not comment.”
Last month we covered reports from Italy that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was interested in Manolas, and could make a move for the Roma star in this window. It was claimed super-agent Mino Raiola could get involved in a deal to take Manolas to Chelsea due to his close ties with the defender’s agent.
Roma are trying to tie him down to the club, but his wage demands could cause a problem with regards to FFP.
