Arda Turan has been on the Barcelona fringes pretty much since signing for the club. The switch from Atletico Madrid just hasn’t worked out and it’s seen the perception of the player’s level drop considerably.
Turning 31 years of age at the end of January, Turan needs a kickstart to his career, and that will likely involve a transfer. Barcelona are keen to see the back of the player, according to countless Catalan reports, as they look to get big wages off their bill.
Finding a destination seems to be an issue, with Mundo Deportivo reporting the player’s agent is now actively pursuing clubs. It’s explained AC Milan and Everton have both been contacted and offered the chance to sign Turan, with Ahmed Bulut trying to find his client a new home.
With Arsenal now ruled out, probably because they said ‘no’ enough times, Bulut is concentrating on Milan and Everton.
Mundo Deportivo say ‘it won’t be easy’, if only because Turan currently earns €7m a season at Barcelona. The Catalan club want €20m, and the player himself is not thought to be too fussed about what happens in January.
It’s a hard sell to Everton: A player who has seen his standing plummet, hasn’t been on the pitch recently, earns big wages, would cost a reasonable amount, and isn’t too desperate for the deal.
But he’s Arda Turan, and still has the ‘money in the bank’ of past performances.
It would be a gamble for Everton.
